State v. Mann

When we hear court cases names we just shrug our shoulders and assume that they are all the same and that they do not apply to us anymore. False. We, the ignorant American citizens are wrong. These cases have paved the roads to how our country runs today. It is our obligation to know and understand our history to understand our future. State v. Mann paved the path of slavery for our country.

State v. Mann strengthen the power of the white slave owner. Even though young Lydia was shot and almost killed by a slave owner, Mann, he was not found guilty. In the eyes of our Supreme court, they thought that it was okay that " slave owners have absolute power over their slaves and could not be found guilty of committing violence against them." How stupid were we to think that this was okay? This case took us even farther down the hole and made it even harder to end slavery.

Even though Mann won, he did not win forever. That is the " hallelujah" to our justice system; we are able to change. Today, slavery is over, all people can vote, there is justice. That is the hope that I have for this country that these rulings are not forever. They could had been "right" but we have re-written the false rights for wrongs today. The path of the United States is always changing and that is why I love America.
